About

Flint Foliage is a small houseplant business offering a selection of unusual aroids and other plants such as Philodendron, Monstera, and Alocasia. Located on the northern edge of the South Downs in Surrey, England; we are dedicated hobbyists first, operating in order to share our passion for unusual tropical and subtropical houseplants. This means we typically only stock plants we personally love to grow. All of our parent plants have been with us for many months, and more often than not, years; and sourced directly from other hobbyists around the United Kingdom. We do not import or flip plants. In essence, the more we sell, the more we can buy other plants on our wish list and subsequently stock here!

Information

Shipping

Flint Foliage is a passion project, meaning we are a small team and typically only have capacity to post orders once a week, usually on Mondays. We do not post on Fridays, Saturdays, or public holidays. All orders are shipped via Royal Mail Tracked 24®, with a flat rate of £8 covering postage and packaging materials. Unfortunately, we are not able to offer collection. Due to current regulations, postage is only offered to England, Scotland, and Wales.

Our plants are posted bare root wrapped with sphagnum moss in double walled cardboard boxes using recycled packing materials. At times we may also construct packaging upcycled from other household deliveries. All plants are posted with plant passports.

Care Upon Arrival

Upon receiving your plant(s), we ask that you unbox and inspect them as soon as possible. The roots will likely be wrapped in moss — remove it and gently rinse the roots under tepid water. Then submerge the entirety of roots only into a container of tepid water, replacing the water at least once every two days, for a period of seven days. Your plant(s) should be an environment that is at least 18°C and 45% humidity, with air flow around the foliage. We grow our plants in an environment sustaining between 22°C and 28°C, and between 55% and 70% humidity.

After seven days, we recommend potting up your new plant into either LECA or LECHUZA-PON, which are the two inorganic substrates used in our care. Please follow the care recommendations given by the supplier for your chosen substrate. We do not recommend transitioning your plant(s) into a soil-based substrate, as this may shock them and cause ill effects on their health.

While unlikely, if any major damage affecting the plant's overall livelihood was sustained during shipment, we ask that you photograph and/or video your plant immediately and contact us as soon as possible. If your plant begins to decline significantly during the seven days after receipt, we also ask that you photograph and/or video your plant immediately and contact us as soon as possible.

Returns/Refunds

Our plants are guaranteed for seven days post-arrival, provided you have followed our Care Upon Arrival guide; have not cut or significantly disturbed the roots, stalks, or foliage of your plant(s); and have got in contact with us a timely manner. Posting plants/changing their environment induces stress, and in some cases due to carrier handling, small foliage damage; as such, we do not refund for small defects and/or minor yellowing proportionate to the plant.

We do not offer partial refunds. Should we determine an appropriate level of care was followed and authorise a refund, we ask that the plant is repackaged in a similar manner to the way it arrived in, and returned to us. Upon receipt and inspection of the plant, a full refund, including return shipping will be issued.

FAQ

Do you offer payment via PayPal?

We currently do not offer payment via PayPal, only major debit and credit cards.

Do you accept offers for trades?

No, not at the moment.

Why do some of your plant listings mention damage?

All of our plants for sale are grown inside our home in the same conditions as those in our personal collection. We are not able to grow our plants in pristine greenhouse conditions, and therefore at times minor issues do occur. The upside to this is that due to lack of overhead in infrastructure costs, we are able to offer plants at lower prices, and they also will need less acclimation in your own home.

Do you accept preorders?

We currently do not accept preorders.

Do you offer cuttings?

While occasionally we may offer cuttings, we typically only offer fully rooted plants with new growth. All plants available are grown from cuttings of our personal parent plants and kept in our care for several months before being offered for sale.

Are there any plants you do not stock?

We try to offer everything in our personal collection. This means you are unlikely to see Anthurium (we hate them), Calathea (they hate us), or Sansevieria amongst our stock.

What plants will be available in the future?

We are currently growing out Philodendron 'Jose Buono', Philodendron Giganteum variegated, Philodendron rubrijuvenile 'El Choco Red', amongst others. We may include a more expansive list later on!

Will you combine orders?

We will combine orders if we receive notification of such a request before we have already starting fulfilling the earliest order placed. If we accept a request to combine orders, postage will be refunded on all orders following the earliest order placed.

Do you ship outside of the United Kingdom, or to Northern Ireland?

Due to current regulations, we do not have the necessary documentation and infrastructure in place to do so. We hope to offer these options in the future.

Do you accept reservations on specific plants, or payment plans?

We currently do not accept reservations or payment plans.

Do you use pesticides?

Yes, we use a combination of Provanto® Ultimate Bug Killer and Fungus Fighter Plus, as well as predatory mites on all plants in our care — those for sale, and those in our personal collection.
